FRET Peptides (Fluorescence Energy Resonance Transfer)
FRET peptides are a convenient tool for studying peptidase specificity because the reaction process can be continuously monitored, providing a convenient way to detect enzyme activity. When the FRET peptide is intact, it exhibits internal fluorescence quenching, but when any of the peptide bonds of the donor/recipient pair are broken, fluorescence is released, and this fluorescence can be continuously detected, allowing quantitative analysis of enzyme activity.
